In order to support philanthropy with more professional services, YMCA/YWCA of Shanghai established Shanghai YMCA Charity Foundation (abbr. Y Foundation) in September, 2014. On December 12th, a new series of projects "Dreams Come True" was launched for people with mental disorders. This project aims at using the donation to realize their wishes and help them feel the love from the society so as to prepare them with confidence to return to society. As the first project of this series, "My Sweet Gift Bags" was held on January 22nd, 2015 by Y Foundation and Huaihai Centre of Life Guidance. Gift bags and New Year's wish were given to 54 members of Sunny Garden (an institute for people with mental disorders in the community) and other mental patients in the community. About a hundred people were invited to this activity, including representatives of volunteers, community residents, cadres, members of Y Foundation Board and Masters of Juequn Culture and Education Foundation. Mr. Zhou Heping, the chairman of Huaihai Chamber of Commerce who supports Sunny Garden for a long time, and Mr. Wu Jianrong, General Secretary of YMCA/YWCA of Shanghai and Y Foundation gave their warm regards to the participants. The activity was started by professional social worker's warm-up game. Members of Sunny Garden shared their wishes and expressed their gratitude by singing "Grateful Heart" and sending flowers to the volunteers and donators. The project is an expression of the idea of "pass on love and love pass on". Many members of Sunny Garden said that they have more confidences on the future life and many more participants donated to support the development of "Dreams Come True" project. |
